"International Security: Theory and Strategies" is one of the core disciplines for students studying at International Relations Specialties. The course "International Security: Theory and Strategies" is part of the group of disciplines dealing with the study of international security system, bilateral and multilateral relations between different actors; foreign policy of states in the field of international security, including the partnerships that are created in this area, especially regional ones, will study different international security strategies and concepts, focusing in particular on that of the United States of America, the Russian Federation and the European Union's Common Security Policy of the European Union and not only . This study will begin with the investigation of the events of 20th century. Only after the First World War a real interest of international actors emerged in creating a viable international security system and the research continuing until the contemporary stage.
This discipline systemizes students' knowledge in
the field of international relations. In knowing the activity of some
international mechanisms, we are not referring only to the work of some international
organizations, but also to mechanisms created within them, such as the UN
Security Council, state bodies, which outline policies in the field of state
and international security.
The scientific character of the university course seeks to create a luggage of
knowledge, to develop attitudes and aptitudes for the training of future
specialists in the field of foreign policy.
The study of this course is an instructive, analytical and synthesis process that continues and complements the knowledge gained in the general history, the theory of international relations and political science, the course of international organizations, having an interdisciplinary character but also a pronounced specialization. As any historical-political discipline also has an educational, civic, national character, because international security is not only military security but also economic, demographic, social security, ie strategies, policies, measures that an active participant must take international life to maintain state integrity in a conscious way.
The course is developed taking into account the content of disciplines of international law (international principles to be observed by subjects participating in international life), international relations theory, international security institutions, international security, globalization, international organizations etc. and is based on a thorough analysis of the state institutions with security skills, the statutes of internationally empowered mechanisms, the strategies and the security concepts of different participants in the system of international realities. Students follow the course to understand, structure and analyze with concrete proposals on the evolution of international security.
The curriculum’s status of "International Security: Theory and Strategies" discipline is a plan of contents and didactic strategies regarding the phenomenon of the international security system, its evolution and assertion. The purpose of the discipline is to assimilate a baggage of knowledge about international security institutions, devoted to international security, globalization, international organizations, etc. The objectives of the course are to prepare students for a successful career in the professional field dynamic of international political activity under the conditions of developing political analysis skills. The methodical basis is the set of methods, techniques and procedures for addressing content units. Beneficiaries: The discipline is taught to students of International Relations, 2nd year (semester III). Integration of the course unit (discipline) into the curriculum: The discipline "International Security: Theory and Strategies" is the component of a block of fundamental course units (code S), oriented towards the accumulation of knowledge and the formation of basic skills, integrated into general competencies . This course is taught in English for one semester of the second year of study.
The curriculum
examined relates to national and university normative acts:
- Education Code of the Republic of Moldova, approved on July 17, 2014;
- National Qualifications Framework in Higher Education;
- Regulation for organization of studies in higher education based on the National
Credit Loan System, approved by order of the Ministry of Education no.1046 of
29.10.2015;
- The AUM Regulation on the organization of the assessment of student learning
activity.
In the process of elaboration of the respective Curriculum, the following
factors were taken into account:
- The need to adjust the educational offer to the current labor market
requirements in the field of political sciences;
- National and international experience in the elaboration of the curriculum in
the discipline "International Security: Theory and Strategies";
- Integrating theory with practice.
